Tokyo, October 19, 2005 --- NEC Corporation today announced that
it rejoined EPCglobal as an end-user subscriber on October 12,
2005. EPCglobal leads the development of industry-driven standards
for the Electronic Product Code(TM) (EPC) and the EPCglobal
Network(TM) to support the use of Radio Frequency Identification
(RFID) in today's trading networks. As a member of EPCglobal, NEC
will be entitled to utilize the network and the EPC standardized by
it for in-house and external sales purposes.
NEC expects to accumulate practical knowledge of the EPCglobal
Network(TM) through adoption of the EPC in its sales and
procurement channels, and will actively participate in EPCglobal
committee meetings in order to share its knowledge of advanced
technologies and contribute to the EPCglobal standard development
process. Subsequently, these activities will enable NEC to provide
EPC-based SCM systems to its customers.
NEC was the first Japanese IT vendor to become a member of
EPCglobal when it initially joined it in May 2005, thus allowing it
to provide the first EPC-based RFID middleware in Japan.
"NEC has no doubt that its participation in EPCglobal will
enable us to expand our RFID business on a global scale, allowing
us to stay ahead of our competitors, and we will strive to continue
to offer premium advanced EPCglobal Network(TM) solutions." said
Kouichi Hirano, Department Manager of RFID Business Solution Center
of NEC Corporation.
