NEC presents its latest 3G handsets at 3GSM 2005

Tokyo and London, February 8, 2005- NEC Corporation (NEC) will exhibit its latest 3G (UMTS/W-CDMA) devices at this year’s 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, showcasing the products behind its leadership position in the global 3G market.

NEC supplied the world’s first 3G handsets to NTT DoCoMo in Japan, and was also the first company to roll out 3G devices to European mobile users through its relationship with Hutchison 3G (trading as “3”), highlighting its commitment to building on its formidable global pedigree.

NEC will showcase Europe’s smallest and lightest handset, the 338, a compact and striking device, available in glossy black, silver and orange. Consumers can access a full range of content and services available through 3G, including live person-to person video calls, multimedia content and video messaging.

The 338 reinforces NEC's ability to deliver stylish and user-friendly handsets. The 338 weights just 114g and measures a mere 93.8x47.1x23.3mm. The inbuilt JAVATM technology supports all of the latest games and applications and customers can benefit from the ‘Play All List’ feature with the in-built media player - allowing continuous streaming of selected video content and MP3 files.

The 338 is currently available on 3’s network in the UK, Italy and Hong Kong and will shortly be available in Austria and Australia. The handset is dual mode (2.5G and 3G), ensuring fast "always on” access.

NEC will also be showcasing the latest cutting edge mobile terminals from the Asian market which have been developed based on leading innovation emerging from Japan. All handsets will be available to view on the NEC stand.
