Tokyo and London, December 27, 2006 --- NEC Corporation (NEC)
announced that it has s tarted delivery of a new 3G (W-CDMA) Node B
series "RS381, RS880." Boastin g high-scalability, the new series
is expected to contribute to the realiz ation of smooth and swift
expansion of 3G coverage area.
The new series features Remote Radio Head (RRH) architecture,
which divide s the Node B into a main controller and a compact RRH
outdoor unit. This a llows flexible installation as the RRH outdoor
unit can be installed withi n several dozen kilometers of the site,
enabling response to a variety of situations and conditions.
The new series also allows flexible configuration as the RRH and
main cont roller can be connected by optical fiber. Typical
configuration incorporat es installation of main controllers with a
central switching system and RR Hs are then deployed in each of the
service areas. Another method consists of several small RRHs being
separated from the main controller and instal led indoors and at
other locations where radio coverage is weak in order t o secure
stable coverage. NEC's new 3G Node B series overcomes this issue of
difficult configuration, realizing smooth and swift deployment of
Node Bs, in turn expanding 3G coverage areas. Moreover, it reduces
installation time to one quarter that of typical installation
methods. The new Node B products have been developed jointly by NEC
and Siemens.
NEC is ready to deliver its new HSDPA to commercial networks
worldwide, an d has started delivery of the new product to Softbank
Mobile. Softbank Mob ile has announced plans to increase its Node
Bs by March 2007 and NEC's ne w 3G Node B series is expected to
play a vital role in their plan. end
