Tokyo and London, December 4 ,2006-NEC
Corporation announced that it has introduced to the global
marketplace a new gigabit Ethernet interface (GbE) for its PASOLINK
NEO point-to-point wireless access system designed to enable
broadband, IP-based networks with advanced functionality, high
speed and superior expandability.
As broadband access markets such as WiMax are launched, and NGN
all-IP networks that NEC is promoting, the demand for
point-to-point wireless access systems are growing.
The PASOLINK series already offers a multi-mode transmission
solution using 10/100 Base-T and E1 (2.048 Mbps) interfaces. This
new offering in the PASOLINK series provides a gigabit Ethernet
interface for the first time, and using a proprietary transmission
scheme, enables throughput of over 150 Mbps in the 28 MHz band. It
is also compatible with various interfaces including 1000BASE-T
(copper) and 1000BASE-SX/LX (fiber), which allows for flexible
adaptation to an all-IP network, for which continuous growth is
expected.
Summary of the PASOLINK NEO GbE Interface
* Switchable between 1000BASE-T (copper) or 1000BASE-SX/LX
(fiber) interface configurations.
* An SFP transceiver is used for the optical module to provide
compatibility with 1000BASE/LX in addition to 1000BASE-SX
* Throughput of over 150 Mbps is achievable in the 28 MHz band
(128QAM) * An optional panel enables the use of both E1-WS (2.048
Mbps) and WS/SC-LAN
Notes: SFP = Small Form-Factor Pluggable Unit is factory
configured for 1000BASE-SX and 1000BASE-LX.
About NEC's PASOLINK
NEC launched its first PASOLINK product in the mid 1980s,
supplying 18GHz PASOLINK systems to a leading telecom operator in
the UK. Since then, business has expanded to a worldwide scale.
Recently, due to the rapid expansion of mobile networks, many
operators have been deploying PASOLINK to connect radio base
stations to facilitate the rapid and simple installation of mobile
infrastructure.
Sales of NEC's PASOLINK exceeded 50,000 units in FY 2000, and
200,000 units in FY 2004. Recently, sales numbers have been rapidly
expanding due to large-scale, long-term contracts with mobile
operators and exceeded 300,000 in FY 2005. The rapid growth of
NEC's PASOLINK business is attributable to NEC's long-standing
experience, competence, advanced and high-quality technologies, and
its leading position in the global microwave communication systems
market. PASOLINK is chiefly designed for telecom carriers'
backhaul, business and emergency networks. It offers simple and
highly reliable fixed wireless solutions. PASOLINK is a PDH/SDH
microwave system which offers a variety of systems to cover small
to large capacity requirements. The systems operate at various
radio frequency bands and it is applicable to various solutions
such as mobile network infrastructure to connect base stations,
business user links, private networks, LAN/WAN interconnection and
back up for optical fiber networks. NEC's PASOLINK allows for
simple installation, speedy service introduction and efficient and
economical solutions for day-to-day transmission as well as
emergency situations.
