Tokyo and London, July 26, 2007 --- NEC Corporation launched a new solution for optimizing wide area networks (WANs), WanBooster, on the global market. WanBooster accelerates the transmission speed of files in WANs by more than twenty to thirty times that of WANs that do not employ the new solution. Aimed at Japanese enterprises with branches located overseas, WanBooster enables the construction of a global sales system, and system integration and support by leveraging NEC's overseas subsidiaries and affiliates. WanBooster is an OEM product of Riverbed and NEC has entered into a maintenance agreement with Riverbed Technology, Inc. Riverbed possesses the largest market share of WAN accelerators in the U.S., confirming the interconnectivity between NEC's WanBooster and Riverbed's Steelhead appliances, which enable wide-area data services (WDS) for enterprises of all sizes.
The demand for accelerated file transmission speed has grown in recent years as delays in file transmission greatly inhibit the construction
of file server integration, and backup and disaster recovery systems. Japanese companies that decide to expand their business overseas face the issue of how to facilitate smooth sharing of increasingly large amounts of data between the headquarters and international branches, and among local branches.
NEC will train its overseas subsidiaries and affiliates in system integration and support for the new WAN solution to maximize growth of its global WAN accelerator business, which aims to achieve sales of 4 billion yen within 3 years.
"Global support systems are critical for international companies that aim to create a globally-integrated server and network system as WAN accelerators need to be set up at both ends of the network," said Katsumi Inoue, General Manager of 2nd Computer Software Division at NEC Corporation. "NEC's solution promotes a convenient global network environment. Moreover, compatibility with Riverbed's Steelhead appliances, which have already spread rapidly in world wide market, will ensure smooth and seamless deployment for our customers."
