NEC Wins Order for Microwave Communication System from Mobile Operator in Moldova

Tokyo, February 9th, 2007

NEC Corporation (NEC) announced that it has signed a contract with the Moldovan mobile telecommunications operator, Voxtel, for the supply of EC's advanced, point-to-point wireless access system "PASOLINK NEO". With this order, Moldova has become the 174th country in which NEC will supply its products as well as the 123rd country that "PASOLINK" will be supplied. Voxtel, the no.1 GSM operator in Moldova, is affiliated with France Telecom, which is owned by the UK mobile operator Orange. PASOLINK NEO will be employed for transmission among mobile base stations, as well as for connection among base stations and trunk line networks.

One of the advantageous features of NEC's Pasolink NEO, as compared with other wireless access systems, is its ability to handle different transmission speeds and interfaces with the same platform. This flexibility allows easier and more cost efficient expansion of networks when operators need to increase capacity.

With the accelerating global expansion of mobile subscribers and mobile internet services, demand for microwave communication systems is expected to see substantial growth, as these systems enable quick installation of telecommunication infrastructure.

The rapid growth of NEC's PASOLINK business can be attributed to NEC's long-standing experience, competence, advanced and high-quality technologies, and its leading position in the global microwave communication systems market.

NEC will continue to drive its advantageous position in the mobile and wireless communication systems market to expand its growth and business operations worldwide.
