Tokyo, January 17, 2008 - NEC Corporation today announced that it has been
named the world's leading microwave communication-system company by industry
analysts (1). NEC ranked No.1 in the third quarter of
CY2007 with a total global share of 31%. The period is the first in
which NEC earned the leading position, which can mainly be attributed to
robust sales in Asia and the Middle East accompanying the expansionof mobile
phone markets overseas.
Construction and expansion of mobile network infrastructure is being
carried out at a rapid pace in Asian and Middle Eastern countries withthe
sharp increase in mobile phone subscribers. "This is a milestone for our
company, and we are proud of this achievement," said Hiroya
Nakata, General Manager of Global Network Division, NEC Corporation. "Our
strong growth in microwave communication systems proves that our PASOLINK
products are highly evaluated for their superior performance by major mobile
carriers across the globe."
PASOLINK has also enjoyed strong growth in regions other than Asia andthe
Middle East due to the start of service by mobile carriers with
newly acquired licenses and an increase in mergers and acquisitions byglobal
operators. Simultaneously, in the area of fixed communication, corporate
user demand for data communication has been increasing as a result of the
active advancement of broadband access. NEC's PASOLINK products and
solutions can effectively support the needs of both fixedand mobile
communications and it will continue to deliver PASOLINK
solutions worldwide to further expand its wireless network business.
Since its launch in the early 1980's, NEC has been promoting
