Corporation today announced that its
Intel(R) Itanium(R) processor-based server, NEC Express5800/1320Xf(1),
has achieved the world's best TPC-C benchmark(2) performance on a
16-processor (32 core) Intel processor architecture (IA) server
platform(3). The 1,245,516 transactions-per-minute (tpmC) was
accomplished by using the Red Hat(R) Enterprise Linux AS 4 operating
system. This also represents the best TPC-C benchmark performance on a
16-processor Linux server platform(3).
TPC-C is an industry-standard benchmark for measuring a system's
processing performance based on an enterprise transaction model for
handling orders.
The outstanding performance proven by this benchmark was accomplished
by leveraging NEC's high-performance cross-bar switching technology,
which supports up to over 200GB/s aggregated throughput, and its
unique addressing network technology for high-speed cache coherency
control as well as its high-performance chip sets. These technologies
are all derived from NEC's extensive experience with supercomputer
development. Furthermore, collaboration regarding the use of
Red Hat(R) Enterprise Linux AS 4 for the Itanium Processor Family ,
Oracle(R) Database 10g Release 2 Enterprise Edition with Partitioning
and BEA Tuxedo(R) 8.1 played a significant role in achieving this
superior level of system performance.
