NEC Wins First Order of PASOLINK, Ultra-Compact Microwave
Communications System, in Greece from Tellas PASOLINK to contribute to
Greece's "Broadband Access Network Development Project"

Tokyo and London, February 5, 2008 - NEC Corporation has concluded a full-turnkey
supply contract with the Greek fixed telephone carrier, Tellas S.A.,
to deliver approximately 120 PASOLINK NEO hops (240 systems), as well
as provide installation and after-sales services. This contract
represents the first order of PASOLINK for NEC in Greece.

Greece is presently implementing the "Broadband Access Development
Project", which aims to equip the country with a communications
network by October 2008. This national project divides Greece into 7
regions and designates a communication carrier to construct
infrastructure in each region. Tellas is overseeing one of these
carriers (equipping 9 districts in the south of the country). This
national project proposes to increase area coverage of domestic
broadband to 60% by 2008 (as of 2005 coverage stood at 13%), thereby
raising population coverage to 90% (from 65% in 2005).

One of the advantageous features of NEC's PASOLINK NEO, as compared
with other wireless access systems, is its ability to handle
different transmission speeds and interfaces with the same platform.
This flexibility allows easier and more cost efficient expansion of
networks when operators need to increase capacity. Furthermore, NEC's
ability to carry out full development, from purchasing of raw
materials to mass production, ensures a highly reliable system of
superior quality, which achieves an average failure rate of less than
once every hundred years.

Since its launch in the early 1980's, NEC has been promoting research,
development and sales of PASOLINK. Accompanying the rapid growth of
mobile markets worldwide, PASOLINK has enjoyed favorable sales as a
communication system to connect the base stations of mobile
communication carriers. The system's unmatched performance is proved
by the 700,000 PASOLINK units that NEC has shipped to over 700
customers in 131 countries (1).

NEC was recently named the leading microwave communication-system
company by industry analysts (2) with a global market share of 31%
in the third quarter of the CY2007.

With the accelerating global expansion of mobile subscribers and
mobile internet services, demand for microwave communication systems
is expected to see substantial growth, as these systems enable quick
installation of telecommunication infrastructure. The rapid growth
of NEC's PASOLINK business can be attributed to NEC's long-standing
experience, competence, advanced and high-quality technologies, and
its leading position in the global microwave communication systems
market.

NEC will continue to drive its advantageous position in the mobile
and wireless communication systems market to expand its growth and
business operations worldwide.
